Question by John: How do I apply for a job in an airport?
I was recently in Miami Int’l, and I saw they have pretty much a shopping mall inside the airport. How do I apply to those types of jobs? Because when I go online it just has gov’t jobs. Does anybody have any idea?

Hi!

With the recession still with us, the fact that you are just 18 will create a challenge as far as getting a job working for any airport. But don’t give up on that dream as I had a similar dream when I was in high school many years ago – now age 52. I wanted to be a flight attendant and told EVERYONE about this (lol). But it paid off as a lady that I worked with after I turned 18, got an application form from her husband who was an airline pilot.

Anyway, back to your issue – go online and find the JFK Airport site and fill out an online application. Then keep an eye on the site to see when a job comes up that you qualify for.

While waiting for this to happen, you may want to look at other possible jobs that are related to air travel so that you can get some EXPERIENCE under your belt. With the recession, there are a lot of “qualified” folks out there so employers now do not have to train folks. But you never know, someone may give you a break if you continue to seek what you want.

Congrats on finishing up high school – check with your old guidance counselor, sometimes they may have some awesome tips to pass your way.

Good Luck :)
